MM Food! is a reimagined album cover for MF DOOM's classic record. The goal was to rebuild the visual identity with a fresh structure while keeping the humor and personality of the original. The new artwork leans into bold shapes, character-driven illustration, and a gritty tone that fits the music.
Visual Direction
The mood pulls from DOOM’s previous album art, tons of food, and DOOM’s signature masked persona. The direction mixes playful energy with darker themes to reflect the album’s balance of humor and grit. The tone stays bold and expressive to match the personality of the music.
Sketch Development
The early sketches worked through different poses, props, and angles to find a composition that highlighted DOOM's character without being a direct copy of the original. The goal was a strong centered layout with the most attitude.
First Drafts
The first drafts stayed in black and white to work out line weight, mask details, and the exaggeration of the food elements before bringing in color. The color drafts tested contrast and palette options that kept the illustration playful but still gritty.
Final Deliverable
The final artwork sharpens the line work, refines the shapes, and pushes the colors into something bold but authentic to DOOM's world. Small highlights add depth to the mask and food elements and a light noise texture gives it a gritty printed feel.
